Most of the industrial signage on board ("somebody expects you home tomorrow") are taken word-for-word from real construction site safety signs. The Ishimura was mostly based on a combination of offshore oil rigs and aircraft carriers. We tried as much as possible to research real places and base our stuff on that. So, it's not like we haven't seen those movies or they're not an influence, but if you only reference other creative works, you're going to make pretty derivative stuff.
